Pinched Bubble Vessel
A vessel pinched from one piece of dark stoneware clay, glazed matte white. Where the glaze is thicker it has some sheen. Small sturdy foot at bottom.
The shapes of my pinched pieces are unplanned. My rule is that I start and finish with one piece of clay, and I pinch it until it feels like the clay's potential is fulfilled. It's a play of not knowing and persisting, giving into a rhythm of pressing, rotating and repeating, staying attuned to the material's condition while trusting my hands.
I find that pinched vessels fit wonderfully next to paintings, beloved textiles and generally in personally important spots of your home. They bring a handmade quality of close attention, and a testimony for the time spent making them, in repeated rhythmic touch. Although only glazed white, the surfaces of pinched vessels are full of details, because the pattern of fingerprints creates a rich surface that stands out in natural light.
Hand wash.
